OVERCOMING DESIGN FATIGUE WITH VR

When talking with clients about the design process, we often use the term “design fatigue.” This is the point some of us get to where we are simply sick and tired of making decisions.

The design process begins with the bigger picture—number of bedrooms, bathrooms, overall floorplans—and it’s exciting; but, by the end, the minutiae of choices can be downright exhausting. Light fixtures, countertops, cabinet and door hardware, trim selection, so many paint choices, wallpaper, grout color, the list goes on and on and on. While customization is a hallmark of great design, it can also feel overwhelming.

Our team streamlines the decision-making process by getting to know our clients early on through pre-design questionnaires and various idea books and inspiration images. This information allows us to make informed suggestions that are in line with our clients’ aesthetics, reducing the variables. Once we have a strong feel for our clients’ design preferences, virtual reality (VR) becomes a great resource to choose the details.

Through VR, we empower our clients to make informed decisions with confidence. This immersive experience allows for the exploration of different design options in a lifelike environment, providing a sense of scale, proportion, and ambiance that traditional 2D drawings or even 3D models struggle to convey.
